The Woman Walking Facing Right: Medium-light Skin Tone emoji (🚶🏼♀️➡️) shows a woman in mid-stride heading toward the right side of the screen. It stands for walking, strolling, exercise, commuting, and moving forward in life. The medium-light skin tone modifier lets people represent themselves accurately while using it.
What Does the Woman Walking Facing Right Emoji Mean?
This emoji depicts a woman walking toward the right, shown with a medium-light skin tone, and it means walking, travel on foot, or progress in a direction.
In its most literal use, it describes a physical walk: a stroll in the park, a walk to work, a hike, or a step count goal. Because the figure faces right, many people read it as moving ahead, heading out, or leaving for somewhere.
The medium-light tone is the second of the five lighter-to-darker Fitzpatrick-based modifiers Unicode offers, sitting between light and medium. Choosing it is a way to make the emoji look like you or someone you are talking about.
Why the facing direction matters
Older walking emojis such as the standard woman walking emoji face left by default on most platforms. Unicode 15.1 added explicit right-facing variants so people can choose which way the figure points. That small change matters for storytelling: right often reads as forward, future, or next step in left-to-right reading cultures.
If you want the default version without a skin tone or direction change, see the Woman Walking Facing Right emoji page.
How Is This Emoji Built from Unicode?
This emoji is a sequence of several codepoints joined together, not a single character.
The full sequence is U+1F6B6 (person walking), U+1F3FC (the medium-light skin tone modifier), U+200D (zero width joiner), U+2640 (female sign), U+FE0F (emoji presentation selector), U+200D (another zero width joiner), U+27A1 (right arrow), and U+FE0F again. Platforms that understand the sequence merge it into one picture.
- Unicode version: 15.1
- Emoji version: 15.1
- Category: People & Body
- Shortcode: :woman_walking_facing_right_medium_light_skin_tone:
Because it is a sequence, a device that does not recognize the newer part may show fallback pieces instead, such as a walking person followed by a female sign and an arrow.
How Do You Use the Woman Walking Facing Right Emoji?
Use it whenever you want to show a woman walking, heading out, or making steady progress, especially when you want the figure to look like you.
It works well in everyday messages because it is clear, friendly, and low-pressure. It rarely carries sarcasm or hidden meaning, so it is safe in casual and semi-professional chats alike.
Everyday examples
- Heading out now 🚶🏼♀️➡️ see you in ten minutes!
- Morning walk done, 8,000 steps before breakfast 🚶🏼♀️➡️
- New year, new route. One step at a time 🚶🏼♀️➡️
Each of these uses the emoji in a slightly different way: leaving, exercising, and symbolizing a personal journey.
What Does This Emoji Mean in Texting and on Social Media?
In texting and social posts, it usually signals that someone is on their way, out for a walk, or moving on to something new.
As a text, it can replace the words "on my way" or "walking over now". On social media, it often appears in captions for fitness check-ins, travel photos taken on foot, city strolls, and commuting posts.
It can also carry a figurative meaning. A post about leaving a job, ending a chapter, or starting a challenge may use the right-facing walker as a quiet symbol of going forward.
Messaging etiquette
Because it is a recent addition, some friends may see a broken version of it. If you are unsure, a quick text description alongside the emoji avoids confusion.
Which Emojis Pair Well With the Woman Walking Facing Right Emoji?
It pairs best with emojis that describe where you are going, how you feel, or what you are doing on the way.
A few combinations that read clearly:
- 🚶🏼♀️➡️ + 👍 to confirm you are on your way. See the Thumbs Up emoji for its tone.
- 🚶🏼♀️➡️ + 👀 to hint that you are going to check something out. The Eyes emoji adds curiosity.
- 🚶🏼♀️➡️ + 🌳 or ☀️ for a nature walk or a sunny stroll.
- 🚶🏼♀️➡️ + 🎧 for a walk with music or a podcast.
If you want to build a whole message out of emojis, the Emoji Translator can turn plain text into emoji sequences you can then edit.
How Does It Differ from Other Walking and Gesture Emojis?
It differs by showing continuous motion in one direction, while other people emojis show a pose or a reaction instead.
For example, the shrug and facepalm emojis express attitude, not movement. Compare it with the Woman Shrugging emoji or the Woman Facepalming emoji, which communicate uncertainty and frustration. The walking figure communicates action and direction.
It also differs from the left-facing version. If you want the figure to point left, choose the plain woman walking emoji or another variant, since the arrow in this sequence is what forces the right-facing orientation.
How Does the Emoji Look on Different Platforms?
It looks like a woman in mid-stride facing right, but each platform draws her in its own style.
Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung, WhatsApp, and Twitter (Twemoji) each have their own artwork, so details such as clothing, hair, and posture can vary. The medium-light skin tone, however, should consistently appear as a lighter-to-medium shade.
Where is it supported?
- Apple: iOS 17.4+ and macOS 14.4+
- Google: Android 15.0+
- Microsoft: Windows 11 24H2+
- Samsung: One UI 6.1+
- WhatsApp: version 2.24+
- Twitter: Twemoji 15.1+
If your device is older than these versions, you may see a fallback instead of the single combined image.
When Should You Avoid the Woman Walking Facing Right Emoji?
Avoid it when your audience may not have updated devices, or when a skin tone choice could be misread in a context where it does not apply.
Since the emoji is relatively new, a recipient with an older phone may see separate symbols rather than one figure. In important or formal messages, plain words are safer.
Also think about representation. Using a specific skin tone to describe someone else can feel presumptuous. If you are not talking about yourself or someone you know, a neutral yellow version may feel more natural.
Finally, it is a lighthearted symbol, so it is a poor fit for serious announcements about hardship or loss, where its cheerful look could seem out of place.
Why Does Skin Tone Representation Matter Here?
It matters because skin tone modifiers let people see themselves in everyday emoji instead of defaulting to a generic yellow figure.
The Unicode system provides five modifier shades, and this emoji uses medium-light. Picking the tone closest to your own is common, but there is no rule: some people choose a different tone for a friend, character, or mood, and some keep the default.

How Do You Copy and Paste the Woman Walking Facing Right Emoji?
You can copy it with one click on this page and paste it anywhere that accepts text.
Click the emoji at the top of the page, and it is copied to your clipboard immediately. Then paste it into a text message, social post, email, document, or chat app with the usual paste shortcut.
- On a phone, long-press the text field and tap Paste.
- On a computer, press Ctrl+V on Windows or Cmd+V on Mac.
If it shows up as separate symbols after pasting, the app or device probably does not support Emoji 15.1 yet. Updating your operating system or messaging app usually fixes it. Once you have it, you can drop it into captions, plans, and replies wherever a little forward motion fits: 🚶🏼♀️➡️
