The Sign Of The Horns emoji 🤘 shows a hand with the index and pinky fingers raised and the middle and ring fingers folded down. What Does the Sign Of The Horns Emoji Mean?
The Sign Of The Horns emoji means rock on, a celebratory gesture tied to rock and heavy metal music. Apple labels it "Rock On," and that name captures its most common use today: cheering for a band, a show, or anything that feels loud and thrilling.
The emoji depicts a raised hand with the index finger and little finger extended, while the thumb holds the middle and ring fingers down. The shape looks like a pair of horns, which is where the Unicode name SIGN OF THE HORNS comes from.
Its related keywords tell the story of its range: hand, fingers, evil eye, devil, heavy, and metal. Most people use it positively, as a salute to music and attitude, but the horn shape has older meanings that are worth knowing before you send it.

- Rock on: enthusiasm for rock and heavy metal music.
- Concert energy: hype for a show, a festival, or a favorite band.
- Edgy excitement: a loud, rebellious way to say "this is awesome."

Where Does the Horns Hand Gesture Come From?
The horns gesture predates its emoji and has several meanings in different cultures. In heavy metal, it became a fan signal for loud, hard-hitting music, and that is the meaning the emoji carries for most people online.
In some places, the same hand shape has been used as a sign meant to ward off bad luck, which connects to the "evil eye" keyword attached to this emoji. In other contexts, the horns can be read as a devil symbol, which is why the keyword list includes "devil."
The emoji does not take a side on these meanings. It simply shows the hand shape, and the surrounding message decides how it lands. A caption about a concert makes it a cheer. A caption about superstition makes it a protective charm.
