The People Wrestling: Medium Skin Tone, Light Skin Tone emoji shows two figures locked in a grappling hold, depicting the sport of wrestling with a medium skin tone wrestler and a light skin tone wrestler paired together. This ZWJ sequence combines multiple emoji components into one image, symbolizing physical competition, combat sports, strength, and athletic rivalry. It can also be used more playfully to represent a struggle, tussle, or friendly conflict between two people rather than an actual sports match.
Because this emoji relies on a zero-width joiner sequence, rendering can vary widely across platforms and some may display it as separate emoji rather than a combined image until full support rolls out. Apple has confirmed support starting with iOS 26.4+ and macOS 26.4+, while Google, Microsoft, Samsung, and Meta support remains TBD as of this writing, meaning older devices may show fallback icons until updates are released.
On social platforms, this emoji is a niche but expressive choice for fans of combat sports and wrestling content. Twitter/X users might use it to react to wrestling news or matches, while Instagram and TikTok creators posting training clips, sports highlights, or comedic sparring videos could use it to add flavor to captions. In WhatsApp and Discord chats, it works well for joking about arguments, playful competition, or literally discussing wrestling as a hobby or sport.
Technically, this emoji is built from the codepoints U+1F9D1 U+1F3FD U+200D U+1FAEF U+200D U+1F9D1 U+1F3FB, joining a medium skin tone person, the wrestling gesture, and a light skin tone person via ZWJ characters, and was introduced in Unicode and Emoji version 17.0. It belongs to a larger family of skin tone combinations for the wrestling emoji, similar to other multi-person ZWJ sequences like people holding hands or hugging, but focused specifically on combative or sporty interaction.
Use this emoji when discussing wrestling matches, martial arts, or any lighthearted depiction of two people in physical competition, especially when skin tone representation matters for personalization. It's best avoided in serious contexts involving real conflict or violence, since the playful sport connotation may seem inappropriate. Once wider platform support arrives, users will be able to copy and paste this emoji easily from CopyThatEmoji.com for use across any app or device.
